Hi,

Yes and no. I used the book to override Drupal's default profile with a Panel and I use imagecache combined with authorpane to displays user avatars. Most of my sites features, however, do not utilize the methods outlined in the book. I will be happy to answer any questions if I can, Shane.

Hi. I just purchased the ebook, Ultimate Community Site Guide - 2nd Edition, and am really looking forward to putting its principles into practice. I just hope the PHP 5.3 issue that seems to plaque many of the modules wont be too much of a problem. I may downgrade to PHP 5.2 so I can learn without the PHP 5.3 issues, then worry about patching them afterwards. I'll keep you posted. All the best, Shane.

After spending many countless hours roaming the net in search of, testing and configuring a good open-source CMS framework to build a social network, I finally settled on drupal. I examined most of the popular ones, such as elgg, buddypress, joomla, and a few less known ones, only to discover that drupal suits my needs the best. Don't get me wrong, the others are excellent scripts that have been well thought out, are supported by a large community of users and contributors and perform their tasks admirably. I simply find that of them all, drupal has got what it takes to turn my dreams into a reality. Many thanks, Shane.
