Avatar Diplaying As Link in Right Column

Question: 

Following the book all is going well except that in my profile page the avatar link for example daz.jpg is displaying at the bottom of the right hand column.

The avatar is displaying correctly is it should on the left.

I'm just wondering if I have missed something obvious or if I have to use contemplate to remove it?

This is a temporary bug in imagefield. It might be fixed with the first stable release (this week I believe).
If you need it fixed right away, you can replace the node with a contemplate indeed.
