Book - page 32 - panel issue. Still stuck at the initial stage

As much as I'm happy with the book, I'm still stuck at page 32 at the initial stage. I've searched and read a couple of posts and threads about this topic but I have to say that I'm even more confused now than before, which might be due to the fact that I've missed something important before. I am using panels 3.0 (final? - August 20, 2009 - Oddly some files in the package are still referring to 2.0)

Anyway, my issue is that I am not quite sure with what dorien means when she suggests to create a panel page. Obviously there is just the option under "admin/build/panels" (I hope that is the right site since the book suggests "/admin/panels/panel-page" being the right path) to create a new panel page.

The dashboard and the next page looks like this:

My issue is that it doesn't quite match the description in the book, so I'm simply not sure if I take the right steps already.

Also it would be nice if you can take me from there and explain the necessary steps described in the book from page 32 to 34 and possibly further so it's easier for Drupal/Panels beginners to move on in the book.

I hope it kinda makes sense what I'm writing

this happens lots because panels made a huge interface change since panels 2 (mentioned in the book) and panels 3 (actual version) you should use node template since thats what you need to override, a node from profile content type.

just enable and edit node templates to add a variant. be sure to check selection rules and contexts.
next steps are kinda easy, you dont really have to worry about arguments because they get added automatically for this kind of panel.

I think the issue here is that you pros are way to fast in your explanations. You speak of node templates. First of all I need to confirm that the page which I'm starting off in the screenshot is actually the right one.

Question:
Under admin/build/panels I should pick "Create new... panel page", right?

If so what do I have to fill in the fields on the following page (second screenshot)? It's not clear to me what "Administrative Title" and "Machine Name" are. This is not described in the eBook.

my bad, maybe my english is not that good so i can explain myself that good.

well that page is correct (admin/build/panels), just take a look at the right column and there it says "Manage pages...", under that, you can see theres a "Node Template" option with an EDIT and ENABLE links so first enable it then edit.
