custom fields don't show in content profile content type

I have two content types which I'd like to use as user profiles, each corresponding to a user role. I've set both content types to be used with profiles, the permissions all seem fine, the users I'm trying to edit are of the types I'm trying to match to the content types, and I'm logged in as admin with all permissions. But I'm not seeing any additional fields or tabs in the user edit pages with the content types.

Anyone else have this problem?

I'm using Content Profile 6.x-1.0-beta3 on D6.10

You shouldn't look in the user edit pages. But in the node's edit pages.
