Field Type "Image" Missing

Question: 

I do not have a Field type of "Image". I did not have it for the creation of the Avatar field and selected field type of "File" widget of "image"

now I see the same thing with the Gallery, Is there supposed to be a "image" field type? am I missing something?

Sure do! "Filefield" and "imagefield" are both installed and enabled. I do not have the "FilleField Meta" turned on because I do not have the "getid3" module. Is this something I need?

I have the same issue, just used the file type with image widget instead. works the same way.

weird though that it is different in the book... I guess it has something to do with different versions of the modules.

I think an addon to the book with a list of exact versions of modules used will solve a lot of these type of questions.

A list of differences caused by module updates will be most helpful too, if that is not too much to ask. though this is hard to figure out with all the little details.

It just seems that they added a "super" category called "file field" in the latest release.

filefield -> image

adds the exact same field type.
