Have people around the world trying to figure out what this says can you expalin does not appear on front page.

Question: 

When we navigate to our newly configured profile, it looks alright... but
it does not yet reflect the objectives we’ve set. That’s why we are going
to override this default profile node view with a “panel” that will allow us to integrate all kinds of other information. A panel page divides the page into different “panes”, in which we can put any block, view or node content (and more). In other words, it gives us the means to accomplish our complex profile goal. We can integrate picture and video galleries, recent posts, friends
etc. all on the same panel page.
cathy lopez: maybe I have missed something in the instructions.

I don't understand your question, you just cited an introduction part from the book.

The profile will not appear on the front page, I don't see what this has to do with it.

If you did not have the profile panel page open, you can find it in 4 possible ways:
- at the front page there might be a teaser of it.
- the url is in the form of node/1 or node/2 ... if you don't have too much content, you might be able to find it that way
- the best way: go to admin/content/node, and look for the profile there.
-go to /content/username if you set up pathauto
