having problems with downloaded site

the front page works but nothing else- getting 404's when i try to log in or when i follow links. can anyone help me? thanks!

Your host probably does not support clean urls, you can try disabling them (type q=? after your base url and than the next part)

Also make sure you uploaded the hidden .htaccess file. In case you cannot find it, it is the unchanged .htaccess for drupal 6.
