Location settings?

Solved
Question:

I am following the book chapter "5.4.1 Getting the location" for adding google maps to profiles. However I had many problems.
1) I think the required modules are not clear in the description. It says "Enable Gmap and Location". Only these two modules? They have lots of submodules (at least 10 submodules). Should we enable all of them, too?
2) Step 4 says "Configure Gmap Location". Gmap Location is a submodule. We must enable it too, right?
3) Step 6 says "Edit the Profile Content Type: under the Locations group". I enabled "Gmap", "Location", "Gmap Location" modules, but I do not see locations group under Profile Content Type. I tried enabling "Node Locations". As a result, I got a group called "Locative information". Is this the "Locations group" mentioned in the book? I was expecting a group called "Locations", not "Locative information"
4) Step 6 says "Set the number of locations to 1.". The "Number of locations" group has three questions, not one. They are "Minimum number of locations: ", "Maximum number of locations: ", "Number of locations that can be added at once: ". Should we set all of them to 1?
5) After doing all of these, I added some coordinations to a profile. However, it is shown in main menu's "Node locations" map. It is not shown on the "User locations" map. Is it normal?

1. just my advice

1)I think the submodules are pretty self-explainatory. Enable those that you will need. If not sure, enable all.
2)Right
4)Well apparently ...1 ...in all!
5)Remember that before you set the profile as a node (Content Profile). So it's pretty obvious that the Node Locations (if limited to profile) will be your user's locations.

2. 1) To clarify: I use

1) To clarify: I use Location, Gmap and Gmap Location

3. I too cannot view the map under my profile

I am looking for an answer to number 3 in the question.
I am not able to see my location on my profile page
I have the following config:
1. Enabled GMap, GMap Location, Node Location and Location.
Note: Only when I turn on Node Locations do I get the "Locative information" group to fill in the details. I filled these in via the edit Profile content type.

2. I then went to edit my Profile Panel content and under:
admin/panels/panel-page/profile/edit/content
I added a Location Block below my current Avatar (i.e on the left hand side of the panel) with the Map macro for profile text field set to [gmap |width=100% |height=200px |control=None |zoom=3|behavior=+notype] i.e. from the book.
Put access to authinticated, saved and went to my profile page. No display of google map.

Help please

4. 3) There is probably a slight

3) There is probably a slight change in names between versions. It is the same group.

6. Check the following: - If you

Check the following:

- If you edit the profile, does the marker exist on the map?
if not, it's a geocoding problem and you need to make sure you have selected all the services for each country for geocoding.

- Did you add the right block: Location Map

7. The only modules needed is:

All works fine now thanks.

12. same problem

I was having a similar problem, i ended up reinstalling everything and 'hey presto' it works.

One thing I have noticed though is that if users are only located by 'city' for example, every node is geocoded to the exact same spot and as a result only the last user to add that city as their location can actually be accessed from the node map.

I'll dig a little deeper to see if there is a way around this, if anyone has suggestions that would also help.

13. This DIScussion looks helpful
