Panels error:invaild input

Question: 

Im trying to follow guides on how to use panels mainy to create the panel page in 4.3.1 of the book but i keep gettin invalid input errors when trying to create content in a section. Ive used a few different versions and i keep getting this error. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yea I have seen and followed that and got the error as well.

It occurs when the panel page is set up and I try to add content to an area, e.g, 'the right side bar'. A box appears in which your meant to be able to add fields and what should be displayed ect, but it just displays 'Invalid input'.

Hopefully that makes sense...
