Like ,erdubya I have a similar problem but because topic is closed I open one new for my case. I tried to test it with just simple text field for Name field. I checked it to used on Registration. I hide all other field apart from this field. I turned all permissions related to this field (edit field_name,view field_name in content permissions and create profile content,edit own profile content in node module) all visible for anonymous users but it just doesn't show. Any ideas?
