Question: 

How easy would it be to convert all the text boxes to rich text boxes where the user will be able to add color, pictures, links, etc?

If not all text boxes then let's say the one in the wall page, or the group description, etc.

By installing FCK editor of tinyMCE, this can be done very easily.
